BOBOLI GARDENS

Learn to garden like a Medici

Garden design is a great interest of mine! I am no Medici, but I love gardens as much as the family did. My great grandfather was a garden keeper at Palazzo Pitti so Boboli has no secret for me and I can tell you all about their present and past look.

You will learn what plants and flowers were collected in this carefully designed park. You will wander in the gardens of the Pitti Palace, the residence of the Medici family from the Renaissance age. The Boboli gardens was also the public park of my childhood, and I grew up with its trees…let me show you its best views and secret corners.

Has it always been only about perennial greenery? or did the Medici catch the tulip fever too? I can tell you the story of how the garden changed with the taste of the Medici dukes.

Boboli is the best place to learn about the Renaissance architectural garden with its harmony of design and richness of botanical collections. Spring and summer are the best time to visit Boboli, but every season has its colours and the park is open all year round!

This was an outstanding tour that gave a great insight not only to the gardens but also the historical context – would highly recommend. You don’t need to be a gardener!

Wonderful journey with Valentina as she provided history of the garden and also interesting stories about the Medici family. It is rare to be able to see the garden from a different point of view, at the end there was a special treat to see one of the ghrottos as well. Thank you.
