BARGELLO MUSEUM

The Art of Donatello

The Bargello Palace is a majestic Medieval building where an incredibly rich collection of Renaissance art is housed from the first days of the Unification of Italy.

This national museum displays famous artworks by Ghiberti, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Luca della Robbia, Michengelo, Cellini and Giambologna.

In this tour I will present the monumental figure of Donatello, the greatest sculptor of the 15th century both in marble and bronze, in the milieu of his Florentine fellow artists. Receiving commissions from important patrons, he was favoured by none other than Cosimo de’ Medici.

The ability to express a broad variety of human emotions brought him fame and success. Donatello’s work had a lasting influence on the evolution of art in Florence being present to the minds of the High Renaissance masters like Michelangelo.

The dialogue that is created in the rooms of this museum between the voices of all these artists is unique in the world.

“This tour was so informative. Valentina was prompt, and patient with all our questions, and you can tell she really loves what she does. So passionate about each piece of art and the artists process, history and life story. I do not believe I would have learned half of what she taught me anywhere else. Must do if you go to Florence.”

“Valentina and her tour were amazing — one of the highlights of my one week trip to Florence! She is super knowledgeable, fun, genuine and passionate about art. I would signed up in a heartbeat for a dozen experiences with Valentina, if offered. She and her tour are true gems.”
